Holistic AI Marketing Measurement Framework
A framework for measuring AI's impact on marketing across five KPI categories: operational efficiency, customer engagement, revenue growth, responsible-AI governance, and strategic value. Includes baseline-setting, monitoring, audits, and a sample AI program scorecard.
At some point a CFO asks what the AI program actually returned, and “we use AI now” stops being an answer. This framework from MMA’s Responsible AI Innovation Lab (RAIL) gives marketing teams the metrics to answer it, across efficiency, growth, and governance, with baselines set before you deploy so the numbers mean something later.
What’s inside
- Five KPI categories: operational efficiency, customer engagement, revenue growth, responsible-AI adoption and governance, and strategic value.
- Concrete metrics under each: time saved, automation rate, CSAT, ROAS, CLV, fairness and audit-trail coverage, decision velocity. Outcome measures, not vanity counts.
- Baseline-setting, ongoing monitoring, and an audit cadence, so you can prove a delta rather than assert one.
- A sample AI program scorecard and dashboard, including a row for agent-based workflows.
Who it’s for
Marketing leaders who have to defend an AI budget, and the analysts who have to fill the scorecard in. The editable Word version lets you adapt the categories to your own org.
How to use it
Run the baseline step first: metric discovery, pre-AI performance capture, and targets agreed with stakeholders before anything ships. From there the framework repeats a cycle: monitor on a cadence matched to scale, audit periodically (bias and fairness, data quality, regulatory compliance, model performance, and for high-risk systems, an outside auditor), and report through the scorecard instead of a deck built the week the CFO asks. Start with the Marketing AI Implementation Checklist if the underlying governance isn’t in place yet: its monitoring and disclosure sections feed directly into what this framework measures.
